Paros has been inhabited since the dawn of civilization in eastern Mediterranean. It was renowned for it's milky white marble which brought to the island great riches between the 8th and 3rd centuries BC. Around the island you can find hundreds of churches, scattered across the countryside and villages.
Most important of them all is the "Panagia Ekatontapiliani" monastery, situated in the capital Parikia. It's dedicated to the Holly Mother and it dates back to the 4th century AD. Paros is a typical Cycladic island with small white buildings set against a harsh rocky backdrop. Every now and again you can see vines and olive trees. The inhabitants used to be fishermen (and quite a few still are) before they discovered tourism and hospitality in general as more prosperous vocations.
All in all Paros is a perfect place for fun. Magnificent sandy beaches, traditional villages, sweet little shops, great food, fun filled bars and dance clubs will keep you busy for the whole of your visit. Naoussa in particular is still keeping it's traditional colour despite the fast paced development in buildings and services. You will love the old fishing port while you have an early evening drink or a meal.
In Paros you can find several banks with ATMs, Post offices, Supermarkets and an excellent GSM network. The road network is also traditional and driving should be exercised with great care. Hope to see you soon!
